If you have OPTIONAL objectives active and you try to take on a new story-related assignment, every incomplete one will be wiped out and lost. Keep in mind, however, that you can't just fill up your log with quests and complete them whenever you'd like to. If you'd like to complete them nonetheless, they're labeled "OPTIONAL," which makes them easy to differentiate from the mandatory objectives. It's going to ignore the vast majority of side-quests, most of which are relatively self-explanatory.
This section will put you on the fast track to completing Spider-Man: Web of Shadows's story, making all of the "good" Spider-Man moral decisions. If you aren't sure which one you're on, pause your game, and it should bring up the Missions menu immediately. That's where you'll find the name of the task being discussed (e.g., "Eliminate Symbiotes"), written exactly as it's represented in-game.
